The Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism facilitates the common development of countries in the Basin.

On the occasion of the 8th anniversary of the launch of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Mechanism(hereinafter as the LMC) and the 7th"Lancang-Mekong Week", political figures in Myanmar recently accepted interviews with Chinese Xinhua News Agency reporters, praising the LMC for focusing on promoting the process of regional economic integration and driving the common development of countries in the basin. They expect that the cooperation mechanism continue to make greater contributions to the peace and development of countries in this region in the future.

Mr. Win Ma KhaingDeputy Director of the Sub-Regional Cooperation Divison of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, said that the LMC focuses on promoting the process of regional economic integration, and has promoted mutual understanding, solidarity, cooperation and common development among the countries in the region, which is of great significance for all countries to abandon the Cold War mentality.

Mr. Kyaw Tay Oo, Director of Planning and Statistics Division of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Myanamr, emphasized the Lancang-Mekong cooperation has brought numerous benefits to the people of this region, which assists local enterprises in their development, enhances the productivity of cutting-edge products and creates a large number of employment opportunities.

Mr. Nyo Nyo Win, Deputy Directoof the Rural Development Department of the Ministry of Cooperatives and Rural Development of Myanmar, believes that the LMC has expanded exchanges and collaborations among the countries in this region in many fields such as health, disaster prevention, environmental protection, culture, tourism, education, and media, thus driving the comprehensive development of the Lancang-Mekong countries.

Mr. Mi ThiLi Aung, an official from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar, expressed the expectation that the LMC will continue to make significant contributions in promoting sustainable development of the countries in this region, maintaining regional stability and peace, narrowing the development gap and enhancing the well-being of the people in the future.

The LMC is a new type of sub-regional cooperation mechanism jointly developed by China and Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam in accordance with the principle of  mutual consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits. It was officially launched in 2016.
