On September 3, 2019, the launching ceremony of the “Joint Operation Against Cross-border Human Trafficking along Lancang-Mekong River”, which is initialed by LMLECC was held in Kunming, China. Mr. Chen Jianfeng, Director of anti-human trafficking office, Criminal Investigation Department, Ministry of Public Security of China, Mr. Nhem Saonol,Pol. Brigadier General, Deputy Director of Anti-Human Trafficking and Juvenile Protection Department, General Commiserate of National Police, Ministry of Interior of Cambodia, Mr. Kikeo Chanthalangsy, Pol.Lieutenant Colonel, Deputy Director of  Anti-Human Trafficking Department, Ministry of Public Security of Laos,  Mr. Myat Soe, Consul of Consulate-General of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, and the high-level representatives of the relevant law enforcement agencies in Vietnam and Thailand were invited to attend the launching ceremony. The Secretary-General of LMLECC, Mr. Zheng Baigang announced that the joint operation against cross-border human trafficking was officially launched.

The joint operation will be carried out based on the LMIN platform (the Lancang-Mekong information network) between LMLECC and the member states, to establish and enrich the database of suspected trafficked persons and suspects in the basin, provide assistance to key cases investigation, and actively play the advantages of LMLECC as a think tank to sum up management countermeasures through joint efforts. The participants discussed the work steps and agreed on the recent focus.

The joint operation against cross-border human trafficking will begin in September this year and last for half a year.
