On November 8, the 15th China-Myanmar bilateral conference on drug control cooperation was held in Kunming, Yunnan province. Fifteen years ago to jointly cope with the "Golden Triangle" region of drug, drug control departments of the two countries jointly established the mechanism of annual bilateral meetings. The two sides have been continuing to promote cooperation in drug control in every field with better mechanisms, closer links and more remarkable results through this platform in the past fifteen years. It has become a successful example of regional and international cooperation in the field of drug control.
Currently, the drug situation in the golden triangle region of the Mekong river basin, especially in northern Myanmar, remains grim. The "Golden Triangle" region now produces about 700 tons of opium, more than 50 tons of heroin, and nearly a hundred of tons of crystal methamphetamines and tablets. The "safe channel" joint anti-drug campaign has become one of the effective measures to deal with the severe drug situation in the region. The member countries have achieved remarkable results by exchanging intelligence clues and carrying out case cooperation. From July to September 2017, a total of 10,244 drug cases were solved by participating countries, 15397 suspects were arrested, 8.4 tons of various drugs were confiscated, and more than 88.54 million methamphetamine tablets were seized during the joint anti-drug campaign of "safe channel",
On the meeting, China and Myanmar also reached broad consensus on information exchange, law enforcement and case handling, control of precursor chemicals, alternative plants development and border cooperation. In addition, China will hand over ¥15 million worth of anti-drug equipment to Myanmar this year, in order to upgrade the level of anti-drug detection and detection equipment of the Myanmar side on the frontier. On this basis, China will try its best to provide more assistance and training to the drug control authorities of Myanmar and give full assistance to Myanmar in enhancing its anti-drug law enforcement capacity and level.
